ECAM Asset Allocation Fund Overview

I have had a number of subscribers express interest in how I manage my personal savings outside the Provident Fund A & B accounts.

As I have stated previous, the EK Provident Fund is a very limited investment vehicle (inc the "C" account) as it does not allow for sufficient investment in hard asset classes (real estate, gold mining, commodities, etc). As such, it does not provide sufficient diversification and exposure to "non-traditional" investment vehicles.

My entire retirement investment portfolio is managed according to the ECAM Managed Asset Allocation Model I developed and posted in my previous blog. This White Paper provides a detailed explanation as to how I go about managing my equity investments.

The "Core" portion of the portfolio is centered on 5 distinct asset classes:

a) U.S. Domestic Stocks (Large and Small Cap)
b) Foreign Stocks (Developed and Emerging Markets)
c) U.S. Bonds (Government + Corporate + Inflation Protected)
d) Real Estate (U.S. Domestic and Foreign)
e) Commodities (Hard, Soft, Timber, Gold)

The "Discretionary" portion of the portfolio is momentum driven and is reviewed weekly. The holdings may change each week given market performance (it is driven totally by market momentum) and is used as a tool to increase portfolio percentage returns with limited downside risk.

The Model is designed to benefit from 3 distinct investment strategies:

1) Strategic Asset Allocation
2) Systematic Rebalancing
3) Tactical Asset Allocation

The Model can be thought of as 12 "brains" each thinking individually within its own sphere of influence. This allows for safe upside gains combined with downside protection.

The portfolio is not a "get rich quick" scheme. It is a conservative "total investment strategy" and is ideally suited towards a retirement portfolio where you want to maximize returns with added downside protection.

I will start providing updates monthly on the blog site indicating the positioning and performance of the portfolio. For those who are interested, I would highly suggest you read the "White Paper" to become better acquainted with the strategies.
